Mark your calendars:  August 23, 2012.   !!!!

Why??  We’re leaving for our African Safari exactly one year from today!  Please note that these dates are about a week later than what I had previously advised. There was a problem with one of the camps – so we pushed it back a week.  Hope this doesn’t present a problem for any of you.

We have 4 couples committed verbally.  Space for 3 more couples!  If you know anybody you’d love to travel with, tell them about this before I announce to a wider distribution list.

Here’s a short-and-sweet itinerary:

Thurs, Aug 23 – flight departure from US (on carrier of your choice . . .)

Fri, Aug 24 – most flights arrive late into Nairobi.  (It’s a helluva journey to get here – but worth it!) G’nite!

Sat, Aug 25 – Lunch at Karen Blixen’s farm and special interaction with a Rothschild giraffe.  Afternoon tea (but of course!)  Then, a private meeting with your adopted baby elephant!!!! and (subject to availability), a private meeting with Daphne Sheldrick at her elephant orphanage.

Sun, Mon, Tues – we’ll fly to Lewa Downs, in the shadow of Mt Kenya.  Three nights at Lewa Safari Camp. Safari excursions in land rovers or on foot.  Optional camel or horseback excursions, too!  Archeological sites.  Animals you’ll see include the dik dik, reticulated giraffe, eland and more!

Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat (Aug 29 thru Sept 1) – fly to Elephant Pepper Camp in the Masai Mara.  Four nights to experience the Great Migration (… I’ve requested that millions of wildebeest plan accordingly!). Classic savannah grasslands with plenty of animals and spectacular vistas.  Lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo.  And did I mention wildebeest??  Plenty of zebra, too!  Hot air balloon is an option.

Sun, Sept 2
Fly back to Nairobi … where a comfortable dayroom is available until your departure flight tonight.

Monday, Sept 3
Flights will arrive home on this calendar day.  You’ll sleep in your own bed, dreaming of Africa!
