I documented a few of my most/least favorite things:
Thumbs up:
Toilet in its own little closet. Brilliant (once you locate it)!
Separate closet for the toilet!
Magnifying mirrors.
Electrical outlets that are accessible without moving a massive piece of furniture.
Free wi-fi.
Thumbs down:
Bathroom wastebaskets with hinged lids. Annoying. Step on a foot pedal every time I want to toss a Q-Tip . . . why?
Hairdryers that only work when you press on the button. Why?
Bathroom outlets that only accommodate men’s shavers. Why?
CNN. Bad news is bad enough in the context of home. When I’m thousands of miles from home, bad news is magnified immensely. If I need to know, I’ll learn about it another way.
Hangers without hooks. The ones that you have to insert into a little thingie. I expect these in a cheap roadside motel. Why here?
Nickel-and-Diming. Four euros ($5.20) for a bottle of water . . . are you kidding me?!
Absence of iron and ironing board. Paying an outrageous sum to have someone press my clothes should be optional. I will press my own, s’il vous plaît.
Absence of coffee maker. The room rate is €300 and there’s no coffee? Not even instant Nescafe? Are you kidding me?!
$17 a day charge for intermittent wifi.
No effective room temperature controls.

Trickle showers. Shower heads which do not flow enough water due to poor maintenance or insufficient water pressure. Guests expect a good shower from a good hotel!
